Description

Durnst is a stocky, broad-shouldered woman, her shape more muscular than feminine, as is not uncommon among Crafters of the most physical trades: imposing, without being tall. Her dark brown, shoulder-length hair is aggressively straight and her face seems to have frozen into a permanent scowl. Her nondescript pale eyes will, depending on the circumstances, pierce you resentfully, or avoid your gaze entirely.

The knot on her shoulder weaves the double grey strands of a Journeywoman Miner into the black-and-red of Benden Weyr.

Her work uniform is pointedly unfancy, all dark colors and straight, functional shapes. Her tunic is cut for ease of movement, not elegance, and her pants are a tad worn out. A thick leather belt girds her waist, and it seems she's the sort who wears heavy work shoes at all times.

History

Durnst hails from Ogren, a smaller Hold in the High Reaches that was hit particularly hard by the Plague and the food shortage that came with it. After losing much of her family, she left at dawn one day, carrying few belongings and much guilt. She managed to get accepted into the Minercraft Hall. But her real objective was the Weyr. She coveted the perceived safety of life there.

After graduating to Journeywoman, her request for her first assignment was the post at Benden Weyr, then the last remaining Weyr on Pern. Instead it was given to Morgann, who, adding insult to injury, was only an Apprentice at the time. Durnst herself was sent to work the main Crom firestone mine.

Turns later, Benden Weyr requested extra temporary headcount from the Hall to absorb a backlog of work. This time Durnst succeeded in obtaining the assignment. To her furor, Weyrleader V'rick placed her under Morgann. She schemed ruthlessly to see him lose his post at Benden. And succeeded.

While Morgann eventually found his own way back to the Weyr, Durnst failed to go native in the interim. Failed to make friends, or really, any kind of connections. She did manage to get Searched, and asked to Stand two more times after, without success.

And now she's at a crossroad. Her past is finally catching up to her. She's stuck in a life she hates. Where she takes her life from there is solely up to her.
