Egg Description

Surely it should have been a perfectly smooth ovoid of the most pale and delicate white. Yet, it seems the somewhat dull perfection has mutated to contain a small oval of stark black near the top. The small bumps that appear on the bottom of the egg were sheer luck, no doubt. Little egg weapons that just happen to hold the shell perfectly upright. No sand settles unfavorably, and none seem to accidentally stumble on this beauty.

Hatch Message

Shaking and shuddering, this ovoid wiggles and wobbles in its sandy bed. The creamy surface seems to remain in place except for that dark patch near the top. That section seems to just fall in on itself but nothing lighter in color shows yet. After a while the entire shell just crumbles, a pudgy dragonet flops face first and does a little roll to end up on his back and kicking his legs in the air for a moment before he struggles to his feet.

Hatchling Description

O dark, dark, dark blue bleeds into dark like the languishing flames of a winter fire. Spirit dreams touch the blue-lashed shadows of this dragonet's ephemeral hide as a mysterious spiral of twilight blue partners carbon purple in a dance that blackens the edges of his narrow spine and rounded sweep of tail. Indigo inks the artistic curves of chin and chest as if to tease the elemental fires that flicker up the slopes of his rump and reach down into the misted polish of immaculate claws. So svelte, so sleek, so self-possessed beneath the filagree'd crown of paper-thin sails, that one might fail to notice the wizardly whimsy dancing in the stillness of those soulful eyes.

Public Impression Message

On The Head Of A Pin Blue Dragonet doesn't drag his feet after the first few moments, the search for that one won't conduct itself, will it? Yes, so, white-clad people in a … is that a line? The little blue trundles himself down that straggling line, a nudge at a knee here and a wing claw hooking the hem of a robe to pull them back into a more orderly line. But then, there is that one who's actually kinda lined up properly. A soft bark of sound and a blazing rainbow swirls as he looks up at the former weyrbrat and makes his choice.

Private Impression Message

Finally, On The Head Of A Pin Blue Dragonet stumbles to a halt at your feet. He looks up, up, up with a rainbow gaze, locking eyes with you. Hot and cold, light and dark invade your mind with a gentle insistence. » Lyronn? No, Ly'r? No, no … umm, Ly'on! Yes! That's it exactly! I never thought I'd find you. Where have you been? Oh, right, you were here and I was … oh, nevermind. My stomach hurts, why does my stomach hurt? Why is this stuff hot? Why are you wearing white? Who are … « Hurry, get him fed before he asks more questions!

Physicalities

Aquinath is both dark and light, the beginning and the end. His color is as brilliant a blue as the inner flame of the fire, that weird elusive wizard's flame that you feel you should be able to hold in your hand since it is neither hot nor cold but something more than either. It's a rich, clear, electrified sort of color that smothers his form as flickering flames roil and flare across a charcoal log. It varies only slightly from light to dark, as if fading in different places according to his mood or the change of seasons. But always, no matter what, beneath it all is that blue, blue, blue fire.

His edges are blackened as if by soot or coal, smudging neckridges and spine, elbows, knees and lower bits of his legs. There is a quiet stillness of shadows that darken the hollows of chest and throat as if time were resting on his edges and napping along the ridge of his nose or hooks of his wings. It is the darkness that precedes the birth of blue exploding across his form. It is his comfort, his camouflage and his surrender into sleep. When he is small and can still curl up into a relatively tiny ball, he appears to be made up almost entirely of his darker bits.

In size, Aquinath is smallish but a bit chubby. A round, sleek little dragon with good proportions and clean lines. He is not a narrow and skinny waif but a well-built, well-muscled dragon without being overly bulky or awkward. There is a certain elegance to his form, like that of a well-fleshed young woman and he wears his smooth, rounded curves with a certain amount of grace.

Personality

Aquinath has absolutely no room for jealousy toward other people in your life. He is too secure in his knowledge of you and his place in your hear that there is no reason for him to worry. Sure there are times that he would rather you spend your day with him rather than anyone special you might find along the way. But in the end, he knows you live within him as he lives within you and nothing is ever going to come between you.

When your Aquinath sleeps, he sleeps. Whoo-boy, does he sleep. It's like he goes into hibernation! As a hatchling, you could easily drag him around the barracks by the tail without ever waking him up. When he's bigger, you can try dragging him around by the tail but I wouldn't advise it. He still won't wake up though. He might wake up for Thread though, he'd hate to miss the challenge of Fall. Unfortunately, otherwise, you're stuck with a narcoleptic dragon.

When he isn't sleeping — which isn't often — he is going full stop. Whatever is going on, he wants to know about it. You'll have to explain it to him in minute detail, or at least get a good vantage point so he can watch and try to explain it for himself. When you try to make his straps, Aquinath will want to try and make straps too — better ones. > But Ly, it will rub on my shoulders if you tighten it there. You should tighten it here. See? < And all the while he is trying to drape your straps over you so he can show you how to make them fit better on him.

He isn't whiny, or a nosy know-it-all. He just likes to figure out how things work. If that means experimenting with the best way to cut open a herdbeast so that you lose the least amount of blood possible? Well then, we'll just have to practice now, won't we?

Aquinath , being one of the smallest of his clutch, will be one of the quickest at getting around. His most favorite place is probably going to be hear the pens trying to help the other Weyrlings cut things up; messy, messy, messy. But he does like to be useful!

When he is not 'InYourFace' with questions, he will happily settle down into quiet time. This is not sleep though, not at all. This is the time where he quietly reflects and investigates:you, himself, who each of you are and who you both are together. When you are apart you might find that you can feel him in the back of your mind, just watching. He'll be as quiet as a mouse in a corner of your thoughts just so he can watch where you go, how you get there, how much you laugh, how much you talk to others, how much … well … everything. He is your Watcher, as protective and loyal as any watch-wher, a thousand times over.

Aquinath also likes the quieter pursuits. Humming, for one. He is, thankfully, in tune and on beat. Chasing dust-bunnies around with his stinky breath for another. That's right, you have a dustbuster dragon. Not because he necessarily likes everything clean and tidy, but because he likes moving things around with as little effort as possible. He is the sort of dragon that would tend toward telekinetic abilities if dragons had telekinetic abilities. He just knows, deep inside, that if he could get the right thought in just the right color that spoon would bend, sharditall! But, until then, he'll just have to use his claws and teeth like any other dragonet — *snap*. Oops.

Aquinath is also obsessed with shadows. Your shadow, his shadow, Nyth's shadow, Yinnialth's shadow, Morgann's shadow, V'rick's shadow, it doesn't really matter whose shadow it is. What does matter is where does it go and why does it follow just that one person? Like Peter Pan, Aquinath has an on-again / off-again relationship with his own shadow. » Where did it go? Where did it go? Oh, there it is! Ly'on, may shadow came back again. See it? See? Ly? Look! I told you it would come back. « Well, yes, Aquinath. If you turn on the light your shadow will come back.

As well as liking shadows, he's a great fan of shadow puppets. Only a few people can do it to his satisfaction; and you Ly'on are not one of them. If he tells you that you are? He's only humoring you. He really likes the different creatures that people can make and Little Lizard FooFoo is his absolute favorite game. Nevermind that it's a human-child's game and you're supposed to grow out of it. Not Aquinath, not him. It's fun! Still, claws and paws make it difficult to get the proper shape to his shadows and BigGnarlyMonsterFooFoo (while fun to scare Yinnialth with) is still not the same.

Aquinath has a rather eclectic sense of humor. He is definitely a happy dragon and he certainly finds you funny, Lyronn, sometimes. But jokes, yours and anyone else's, he just doesn't get it. He's like the Coneheads. They have absolutely no concept of Earth humor and Aquinath has no concept of Pernese humor and takes everything much too literally. And especially since he doesn't get human phrases get comes back with stuff like » Why is the meal happy? « or » Why is it raining felines and canines?" Did they fall off Tandreath's ledge? «. Thankfully for you, he simply accepts that he doesn't understand these things and though his Investigation of What is Humor might sometimes drive those around you into fits of hysteria, he still doesn't get it. » What? I'm supposed to laugh now, yes? «

Otherwise there is little variation to Aquinath's curious life-delighted sort of nature. Certainly when he matures and Flights become a part of who he is, he'll turn more primordial than you might have expected. Normally he is the friendly, smart and funny Dr. Jekyl but then he morphs into the dark and dangerous Mr. Hyde. He is the darker side of Shadow, the quicker flash of Wolf and he chases without any pleasantries or gentlemanly manner. When a green rises, she becomes the hunted and Aquinath will stay with her till the end. Of course, win or lose, he is delighted, charming and considerate. It is only the Flight itself that turns him into a MeTarzan, YouJane neanderthal.
