Gamma Rays Egg

A faceted shell similar to a dragon's eye, yet reminiscent of a precious gem. Beautiful to the eye, it glows green from the inside. This egg seems to emit a creepy, faint greenish mist from its shell. Those who look upon it might get a slight sense of dread if they get too close.

Hatch Message

Gamma Rays Egg pulses softly as it bides its time. Finally there is a noiseless explosion when the ovoid shatters. Standing spraddle-legged amidst the shards of his shell is the goo covered bronze it once housed.

I Am Groot(th) Bronze Dragonet

Slender and lithe, his body is lean and muscled as a panther. Not as darkly patina'd as his sire, his hide is the reddish brown of long dried blood, the sueded texture showing shadows in the soft hollows and a coppery sheen on the prominences. His neckridges are smooth and symmetrical, marching down to his shoulders where a comfortable seat for his rider will eventually appear. Broad wings match the rest of his hide though the underside shimmers a rich reddish-amber while his powerful limbs end in obsidian talons.

Public Impression Message

Rainbow eyes meet green-grey when I Am Groot(th) Bronze Dragonet moves up to the ex-hunter with a prowling stride. A low rumble sounds though it's hard to tell just where it is coming from before it is cut off. The little bronze tugs at the tail of Garalt's white tunic toward where the buckets of meat sit, awaiting those in need of sustenance.

Private Impression Message

When I Am Groot(th) Bronze Dragonet finally comes face to face with his prey his rainbow gaze meets your green-grey. Snuffling at your chest there is a sense of a roar of triumph as his mind reaches out to yours. « Garalt? Yes, G'ralt. You. You are the one. I am Jaskieth and I require … blood. » As you lead him off the sands he gives you the sense that this is the last time he will speak intelligibly with you for a very long time.

Physicalities

Jaskieth won't tend to either extreme in size. He won't be one of those nearly-as-large-as-a-gold bronze nor will he be a barely-the-size-of-a-brown either. He's just right in the middle which actually suits him, really.
Yes, he may look like a gangly wolfcub at Hatching but he's got the muscle control of at least a half-grown dragon. A clumsy hunter is usually a dead hunter after all and he is an apex predator that might be able to teach you a few tricks, G'ralt!

His hide is a study in textures and it all starts with the fine suede of his neck, belly, haunches and tail. Soft and pleasing against your skin, it tends to be softest on his belly, his muzzle and the silky breadth of his wings. However, there is a lot of grit in him as well; his neckridges are river-polished stones and his talons are sharp enough to carve through the toughest herdbeast hide like a hot knife through butter.

Once he has grown a bit, Jas has an easy confidence about him that belies his size. He won't seem to shrink in the presence of the golds nor will he loom over the chromatics: he is Jaskieth, he just exists.

He may not be the fastest flyer but he still has the fluid grace of the predator, like a supple black panther, that lets him control each wingsweep with great efficiency and make some pretty cool turns that other bronzes just can't do. He won't be a whirly-gig of a green but he will be able to utilize his maneuverability to bank at just the right angle to intercept a female as she comes out of her dive or a clump of thread that got past one of your wingmates. Just like the grace he showed straight out of the shell he will quickly find his stride when he starts flying and soon become a master of the air.

On the ground he'll move with a peculiar gait that is difficult to describe. Imagine a seal moving on land. Yeah. They are lovely, graceful creatures but you'd never want to saddle one up to take a ride. You had best hope that you aren't required to be on his back when he is forced to walk! In the air, however, he becomes all boneless grace and swift, steady flight that allows him to make a bid for the golds even as he arrows after the greens. These abilities will be more practical in the life-and-death struggle of Threadfall though; he'll see Thread, he'll gauge the wind and then just slip on through. There will be times when you will be tempted to reign him in, you may have complete faith in him but your Wingleader may not.

As far as flights go, his lust will burn like a lit candle; strong and steady. He's not randy, he's more subtle. However, when he's blooded and ready, his veins pumping with hot ichor he will show his prowess to the fullest.

Personality

When V'rick first met you, Garalt seemed to keep himself aloof and was reticent to interact with people. However, as you became more comfortable in the Weyr you began to blossom and people knew they could count on you if they needed you. Garalt still has that cynicism but it doesn't seem to be as strong as it used to be.

Geralt in The Witcher was a quintessential cynic, believing that people are motivated purely by self-interest. Jaskier on the other hand was more of a fatalist, believing that all things are already predetermined. In other words, destiny. Something that Geralt didn't believe in (in my limited knowledge) and Garalt seems to reject due to things he went through in his past.
That being said, as a weyrling, Jaskieth will seem to be exactly that; doing things only because you ask and it's for his own benefit. He's a baby after all and can't really control his impulses yet. That's your job! When you finally meet Jaskieth there will be a time of learning as you learn his mind and feelings and he learns yours. However, after a time the two of you will come into accord and you will find that Destiny has found you and its name is Jaskieth.

One thing you will notice no matter the sounds that Jaskieth makes in your head; there will be a very quiet thread of melody behind those sounds. Even when he is not calm and happy there will be that elusive tune. Lullabies and children's songs for the first six to eight months after hatching. Even you will find it difficult to determine where the sound is coming from, and probably won't even hear it beneath the louder noise of his hunger, itches or irritation for several weeks. When you do hear it, you might find that humming or singing to him will help him to calm down and trust that you will take care of whatever need he has. One thing he knows from the shell is that you are the one creature in all of Pern that he can trust without hesitation. When you realize this then you will know that Jaskieth is the one creature in all of Pern that will never betray you.

As he grows and your connection solidifies you will begin to hear the melody more strongly and find yourself humming along without even knowing it. You will find that Jaskieth will come up with lyrics that you have never heard with a tune that is just as indefinable. Granted, not everyone knows every song ever written by every Harper through the last 1800+ Turns, it might be a song that he heard when you weren't around. Maybe.

You will find that while you and Jaskieth are opposites more often than not, there is one thing that you and he have a meeting of minds on. If you have to make a decision between two bad choices you would rather not make that decision. However, if you have the chance to help someone you will do anything to help them. Even disobeying orders. You may disobey the Healers after you have been scored and Jaskieth needs to be bathed and oiled. You take a risk of injuring yourself further but you have done what needed to be done to care for your lifemate. Jaskieth may disobey you when you tell him to remain in formation but he can see that Brownth below him in the flight will be hit by a clump of Thread if he doesn't dive. He too has done what needs to be done, and he will eventually thank you for taking the heat for his disobedience.

One issue you might find disconcerting is that Jaskieth closes you out entirely when you have been seriously wronged by someone. The one time you might turn to him for comfort and you can't find your way into his center until he chooses to open up to you once more. Then, you might despair of ever understanding your bronze because he will divulge to you a plan to get revenge. And he will be determined to carry it out. This is when you will realize that he can be as petty and cruel as you when you have been hurt though he is petty and cruel on your behalf. While it might be difficult to talk him out of doing what he wants to do, he will begrudgingly allow the offender a pass. This time.

One thing that we have seen from you Garalt is that you will do what you can to protect others in just about any fashion. You were ready to take on Morgann's father when it didn't look like V'rick was going to. You were really not happy with Lysander dropping the bomb on you about his partner when you knew Morgann was hoping for a reunion. We've seen you have this Papa Bear side in a lot of little instances and it makes us wonder. You protect others, but who protects you? Now we don't have to wonder because Jaskieth will always — ALWAYS — do everything in his power to protect you.

Mindvoice

We are sure that you have noticed that as you grew from childhood to manhood your voice changed going from sweet, pure and high to richer and deeper. Well, the sound of the mind changes even more so. While most dragonet's mindscape and voice is carved in stone at Hatching, your Jaskieth is much more changeable. As he ages and time passes, experiences shaping you both, his voice will take on deeper nuances and richness.

While he is young, his mind will most often be filled with predatory sounds. The hissing roar will have little to do with what he is experiencing but much to do with his immediate hunger for bloody meat. He will be quite bloody-minded. When you wander through his mindscape you may come across half-eaten carcasses or torn apart bodies that he has left for you to find. It's not a threat, far from it! As he knows you to the core, so too do you know him and he is not ashamed to let you see those very base needs and wants. Whether he is hungry, itchy or irritated you will know by the sounds he makes. You might even feel what he is feeling since your minds are so closely linked and those sounds will make you understand what he means by them. Much like how humans can tell how an infant or an animal is feeling or what it needs simply by the type of cry they make.

When he matures, his voice will take on the soft sound of water flowing over mossy stones and the ring of crystal windchimes. The soft sounds are prevalent when he's calm but when he becomes angry, frightened or is grieving the flowing water becomes a rushing cascade falling dozens of dragonlengths onto sharp rocks and the clashing of cymbals in discordant tones. Imagine the music you hate above all others; that is what you will hear and you will do everything in your power to soothe him then just to make the noise in your head stop.
You'll also find that his mindscape moves from those deserted valleys filled with torn up carcasses or skeletons into more gentle river valleys and greenswards where the rocks are covered in moss and the trees provide cool shade. Again, in the darker moods, his mindscape will change though more subtly than his voice. The moss fades and the rocks sharpen, the gentle flow of the water becomes more choppy like level 5 whitewater rafting. The ground beneath your feet is moist and gives off a rich loamy scent though the plants and flowers surrounding you don't smell strongly at all. It's a beautiful place … when he's happy. But when Nyth steps on his tail by accident or Yinnarialth steals the herdbeast he called dibs on, you'll understand it's not all sunshine and roses with your quixotic Jaskieth. The fires of his anger aren't as hot as his sire's but the lovely flowers disappear in the flash of forest fire leaving the strong trees as blackened spears against a smoke darkened sky.

The air will be soft and sweetly perfumed with the scent of peach blossoms, a gentle breeze caressing through your hair and across your cheek until Logyth's rider decides to play a prank on you. People (and dragons) who try to push you around will get the rough side of his tongue and the scent in your mind is not pleasant at all. Charred wood and stagnant water, any foul smell that you can imagine will pervade your thoughts until you think it's lingering in your sinuses.
As a Hatchling there will be very few actual words exchanged between you and Jaskieth. His communication will be pictorial, concepts rather than something that is easily identified as words. Even as he grows Jaskieth will be a dragon of few words both with you and with others. Communication in the form of language is a lesson that will have to come from you, G'ralt. You are his hunt partner, the one he learns from and trusts above all. It will be a lesson for you both though, because as he matures you will find that his 'speech lessons' advance faster than you might be able to keep up with. After all, Jaskier is a genius so why shouldn't Jaskieth be just as precocious? As he learns, you will hear the poetry in his soul, see the fire of that poetry and feel the same joy he does as the words bring pleasure when spoken or sung.

A few Turns together and you will find that you have left an indelible mark on his mind. Yet Jaskieth will have gifted you with the same passion for life that burns within him. Turns hence you may find yourself on the peak of a mountain with the snow above you turning orange with sunset or on an Istan beach with the rush of waves breaking sounding in your ears at with the waves glittering in the sun at noon or perched on a butte in the middle of the Igen desert at sunrise with the reddish sand landscape showing all the purples and greens before Rukbat crests the horizon. That is when your minds will be in perfect accord, finding pleasure in being together and appreciating the glorious vista before you.

Jaskieth's anger will be a jungle filled with steam that is almost thick enough to choke on. The scent of decay hangs in the still air, the heat causes instant perspiration to pop up on your skin and the darkness makes it difficult to find your way through this maze of his mindscape. However, he gives you a path to find him though anyone else trying to find their way through to his center will find themselves going around in circles until he chooses to allow it.

Your lifemate celebrates emotion through songs in a way that few others will. If the Pernese believed in reincarnation, Jaskieth might have been a Harper in a previous life with the way he breaks out into song at the tick of a talon. Whether it is glorious, or tender, or bawdy, or even some combination of them all, you will know his mood rather than being taken unawares. For the first time in your life you have found someone who will protect you even though you will protect him while he grows. Love — his love for you, your love for others or the more intimate relationships — will be a symphony of deep, dark, lovely singing.

When he actually speaks with words his voice is deep, as deep as the earth and the roots of the forest. It is so deep that other dragons might have a difficult time hearing his music and songs. However, when he speaks in anger, his voice will tear at the sky in a savage display showing that he still carries that base and primal predatory side.
