Steam Around A Red Bull Egg

This egg seems to show a conflict going on. Much of the egg is a fiery, lava red, oranges swirling about to give the vague herdbeast shape more definition. However, toward the bottom, there are foamy bits of blue, as if this illusory herdbeast was indeed as hot as it appeared and was stepping into the sea, and that the water was flashing into steam. White wisps curl up around the red shape from each of its four main trunks, with the worst of the seeming creature at the mercy of a splash of blue coming up from behind.

Hatch Message

The Steam Around a Red Bull egg twitches and shudders, the red, herdbeast-like splotch on it seeming to tremble as if the beast is about to charge. Then the sea rises, the steam forming a cloud over the brilliant figure as the egg shatters, the creamy inside of the shell taking view over the vibrantly colored outside.

Hatchling Description

Leaves spread bright verdant veins, the color of new growth in the spring, so like the silken hide of this sylvan green hatchling. Plush, springy moss textures her flanks while glaucous ivy sends shoots curling around her verdurous neckridges. Scalloped porraceous leaves burst from those tendrils, tattooing themselves faintly on savannah headknobs and muzzle. Wider clover foliage marches down the underside of her neck to her belly and broadens into reseda pads on her legs until her stony talons. Spikey rush stalks layer themselves in a chaotic fashion over her wings, clustering on her sails and fading away before her viridian finger tip. Springtime fronds of ferns pattern their way along the length of her tail, leaving their feathery impressions wrapped around it down to the viridescent fork.

Public Impression Message

The Eternal Spring Forest Green marches around the sands almost imperiously. She stops to stare at a brown-haired girl, then with a warble of disgust, turns her back and tries to walk away, only to trip over her long legs. Despite this mishap, she pushes herself to her feet again, only to trip again moments later, this time at the feet of a brown haired, hazel-green eyed candidate. She stares up into those eyes and seems to have no further need to move for the moment.

Private Impression Message

The heat of the sands is replaced by the cool, green darkness of night beneath the trees of a forest. Frost brushes across your mind for a moment, only to melt into the warmness of summer in a clearing, the heat of a love that seeps through your iciness to the very core of your being. « P'i, » a smooth soprano voice trills. « I am Xyrinth and I have found you. » Then it pauses for a moment, considering. « Shall we get something to eat? »

Personality & RP Tips

Purity and innocence, fierce and protective, beauty and grace. All are words that could be used to describe your Xyrinth. Even as a hatchling, she will have an air of gracefulness that is unusual for one of her young age. Within just a few sevendays, she’ll have figured out exactly where her limbs are and how to avoid any of the usual hatchling clumsiness. Growth spurts will trip her up for a little while until she finds the ends of herself again, but she will quickly adjust.

She is wise beyond her turns, instinctively seeming to understand concepts that her clutchmates struggle to understand. This will carry over into adulthood as she, occasionally, offers surprising words of wisdom or hope. This said, she is also extremely blunt to the point of being unintentionally hurtful at times.

xy3.png

She is something of a loner, keeping everyone other than you at a distance. This isn’t to say that your Xyrinth doesn’t like other dragons, but she doesn’t usually get close to them. That said, she is very protective of others, often going out of her way to help those that need it, whether asked to or not.

Xy is a very quiet dragon. Where other dragons croon and rumble, she tends to be nearly silent. When it comes to other dragons, she tends to keep her own counsel. She rarely speaks to others, including you, P’i. Instead, she is a creature of emotion; communicating through feelings, sensation, and images.

In the air, she's outstanding and quite good at just about everything a green can do. Water seems to be her bane. While she was able to figure out how to accommodate her legs on the ground, she's never comfortable with them in the water. Though she has no distaste for it, she'll always be quite the awkward, somewhat slow, swimmer.

“Don't look back, and don't run. You must never run from anything immortal; it attracts their attention.” -the unicorn

Like all of her kind, Xyrinth’s greatest foe is Thread. Fall brings out that fierceness mentioned earlier. She is uncharacteristically aggressive, taking risks that she probably shouldn’t. She is fast. Fast and agile, however she is still conservative with her energy with frightening precision, thus allowing her to pace herself so that she can last longer than most other greens.

"Molly, who am I? Why am I here? What is it that I am seeking in this strange place, day after day? I knew a moment ago, but I have forgotten." -Amalthea

When she goes proddy, Xyrinth turns into something of a space case. She roams around like a ghost, seeming to be lost and confused about where she is and what’s going on. Flights are more of a dance with Xy. They are also usually fairly short because she tends to go all out right at the beginning and ends up wearing herself out pretty quickly. Afterwards, she will not linger with the winner, instead wandering off to be alone or bond with her lifemate.

Inspirations

Xyrinth was inspired by Peter S. Beagle's The Last Unicorn. The novel begins in an ageless forest that is always spring, kept that way by the magical unicorn that inhabits it. Mr. Beagle is the best-selling author of a number of books, screenplays, and other forms of the written word. His writing has achieved recognition through the New York Times' Notable Book of the Year and won the Locus Award. The Last Unicorn is definitely his major claim to fame and is beloved throughout the world. It even had a movie adapted from it that has become the best-selling VHS tape of all time. There is also a new live-action movie being made starring many of the original voice actors reprising their original cartoon roles, such as Christopher Lee (Star Wars, Lord of the Rings) as King Haggard.

Xyrinth was originally hatched at SouCon in December 2004 and was written by L'yan
